Our alpaca journey began when Michael and I brought our daughter, Carly, to college for her Sophomore year at the Newhouse School at Syracuse University. Hoping to distract me enough so that I wouldn't cry all the way back to our home on Long Island, Michael decided to let me visit an alpaca farm, Angel Tree Alpacas. He figured that I'd pet some alpacas, buy some yarn to knit, and then we would be on our way to do some kayaking. Boy, was he wrong! We spent a wonderful few hours with the Engels and then reluctantly (at least for me) had to leave to go on with our day. Little did I know then that I was hooked...I had caught "alpaca fever"! The next few weeks were spent pouring through websites for any bits of information I could find. Michael was elated... I had stopped crying and re-focused my attention on something more productive than endlessly watching baby Carly videos!
My search brought me to Rosehaven Alpacas and Alpaca Grove. Michele and Rob from Rosehaven - where some of our alpacas will be agisting (enjoying their lives until we have a place to enjoy them all the time) - have been wonderful mentors. Our first two girls, Autumn Dancer, who was on "The View", and Maggie, who is already a blue ribbon winner, joined our family less than two months after Carly went to school. During a visit with friends in Massachussets, I visited Pat Badger - owner of Alpaca Grove. He introduced me to Trista and I was instantly smitten. She joined our family the week Pat was due to leave on tour with his band, Extreme.
We purchased Brookhollow's Stella Luna in September of '09 ...a spectacular addition to our evergrowing herd. Our first cria from Autumn, Prince Charming, has started our breeding program off with a royal flair.
And so our journey continues... Michael, Carly, our beautiful black lab Lucy and I look forward to what the future will bring.
Autumn Kisses to you all,
Robin, Michael, Carly and Lucy
