  • Alpacas are alert, intelligent, curious and somewhat predictable
  • They are social animals that seek companionship
  • Humming is the alpaca's main way to communicate
  • They also communicate with neck posturing, ear and tail positioning and head tilting
  • Alpacas deposit their odorless bean-like pellets ( also known as Alpaca Gold because it makes such an amazing fertilizer)
          in concentrated areas

Alpaca Maintenance & Care
  • Alpacas are sheared without harm every twelve to eighteen months
  • They require minimal fencing
  • Alpacas can be pastured at five to 10 animals per acre
  • They are virtually disease-resistant animals
  • Alpacas require annual vaccinations with tetanus and other locally appropriate vaccines
  • They need routine parasite control
  • Teeth and nails require occasional trimming
