I love to wear the garments, scarves, shawls and other accessories that I make. It is a wonderful sense of accomplishment to take a simple skein of yarn and create something that is uniquely yours...even if many people create it.
Knitters and crocheters know the beautiful hand that alpaca presents. Yummy to touch, easy to work with, and delicious to put next to your skin. Felters will be amazed at the lucious feel of slippers, gloves, hats and handbags.
Since alpaca is a non-allergic fiber, it makes the perfect gift for those who can't tolerate the lanolin in wool, the itchiness of cashmere, and the feeling of synthetics next to their skin. I can't count the number of calls and e-mails that I've received from skeptics who are now converts! Here are some projects to get you started.
Some final hints...
1. Use a needle that is one size smaller than called for. 100% Alpaca has little memory, so you will find that it may work up a bit looser than you'd like.
2. Use a rib or seed stitch for edges, cuffs and bottoms. It will hold your project's shape so that it will not grow.
3. Wash gently in cold water or dry clean. ALPACA WILL FELT IF AGITATED IN HOT WATER!
We love to see your finished work...send us an e-mail with photos when you are done!
